Full-time Underwriter - 6 month Contract - Insurance

Client Services Underwriter - 6 Month Contract
The role holder will also be responsible for the timely process of proposals through the de-risk / commutation / novation approval process, compiling reports and business cases for Committee sign off.
The underwriting services team will have responsibility for the integrity of data inputted on the reinsurance system WebXL And the paper and electronic treaty records.

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas
Impact on the Business
• Support derisk / commutation / novation forum and provide meaningful and informed recommendations to senior management and Reinsurance committees.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of underwriting decisions ensuring all decisions are in accordance with the companies risk appetite
• Record and monitor decreasing risk exposures and prepare regular monthly MI for review by the Senior Management Team and Insurance Risk committees.
• Delivery of strong technical evaluation & review process for all proposals adopting constructive probing and challenges to submission
• Definition & delivery of accurate and comprehensive management information within agreed timelines
• Deliver business cases for approval in a timely fashion
Customers / Stakeholders
• Maintain and develop strong working relationships with personnel within Manufacturers, Preferred Strategic Partners & Insurance Brokers.
• Develop strong communication links with Internal Stakeholders i.e. Business Development, Claims, Finance
• Proactive development of strong relationships with Internal and External Stakeholders

Leadership & Teamwork
• Develop cross training/knowledge within the team
• Chair internal meetings such as business lines and deal approval committee meetings.
• Regular Feedback across team

Operational Effectiveness & Control
• Continued review of processes and procedures, ensuring efficiencies and compliance to highest level.
• Identify potential accumulation of risks and assist in obtaining appropriate data to manage risks.
• Continually reassess the risks inherent in the operations taking account of internal and external environments
• Consistent & Effective approach to risk applied

Major Challenges
 Client underwriting processes; • Speed and quality of services, adherence to risk standards, capturing all underwriting data.
 Ensure timely action of the approval process including obtaining full signature and approval of the proposal. Effectively communication with all internal and external stakeholders through all stages of the approval process.
 Responsible for the integrity of data inputted onto the Webxl system as well as the quality of MI reports obtained from the Webxl system.

Role Context
 The job holder will be responsible for developing strong working relationships with a wide audience of stakeholders.
Management of Risk
• The jobholder will assist in monitoring and managing risks, risk appetite and reinsurance requirements
Observation of Internal Controls
• Maintains internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
Role Dimensions
• Derisking of business in line with annual PBT Targets
• 77 active reinsurance treaties to be exited in an orderly fashion.
• Multiple channels and products , both retail and wholesale markets
• 2 Legal Entities

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
• Significant insurance industry experience, with proven track record of technical reinsurance management.
• Graduate in a relevant discipline and or Insurance Qualification to ACII level
• Exposure to and understanding of varied classes of insurance business and markets
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Strong organisational /time management skills together with ability to work on own initiative
• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills with proven negotiation and influencing skills.
• Excellent relationship management skills with demonstrated record in building working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven key account management track record a distinct advantage.
